For this project, we were required to  develop designs for  two stage sets based on two self-chosen scenes from the film 'Pan's Labyrinth'. The theatre stage is located in the Northern stage in Newcastle University, Newcastle Upon Tyne. As part of this brief, we where also required to design the supporting spaces of the theatre. In this part, we were asked to produce a completed concept scheme on the two separate sets based on our interpretation of the chosen scenes and the film's narrative, as well as consider the context of the story and the actors' interaction with the design whilst create an imaginative and purposeful production that links both sets.

The permanent set structure and object movement

The proposed design is set around moving objects, that move throughout the play and are adaptable with the actors' moves. The permanent structure of the show represents the house based in the movie. This can be used for indoor scenes were the full structure (two floors) is moved forward towards the audience with the aid of track lines engineered on the stage floor. Digital projection is used on the eight panels and the revolving object (The circle) placed in the middle of the structure. The bottom panels can be moved around the stage whilst help section out the structure. The circle revolves and moves forward. the partition walls can swing front to create a flat front wall for projection and scenery change.
